Money Clips
A money clip is a type of clamp or clasp used to store cash and/or cards in a compact manner. It is generally used instead of a wallet because it takes up less space. It is typically made of a piece of metal folded in half so that the notes are securely wedged in between. It can be made with stainless steel, gold, silver, titanium, platinum, nickel and so on.
Magnetic money clips are also quite common, generally made of two strong magnets encased in leather. These clips have a greater carrying capacity than metal ones. Due to the inflexibility of metal, metal money clips cannot hold large amounts of cash. This is with the exception of titanium which has great flexibility and excellent resistance to cracking and fatigue. With greater flexibility comes less spring tension in the ‘closed’ position, which means it is easier to push bills into the clip as well. Magnetic clips, on the other hand, can typically hold up to 15 bills folded in half. On the downside, magnetic clips are not recommended for carrying credit cards.
Then there are money clip wallets which are designed specifically to hold both cash and cards. These usually consist of a credit card holder with something like a swivel magnetic clip attached to the back or a fixed plastic clip.
